Public to view and vote for their preferred Piece of Public art for Shamrock Square
Monaco Properties is delighted to invite the public to attend a unique Public Design Exhibition at the Shamrock Plaza, Shamrock Square, Carlow from 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th March .
The Exhibition featuring works from five artists who have been successfully short listed entries who entered the Public Competition commissioned by Monaco Properties .The exhibition will present drawings, plans, conceptual information and Models by the five successful artists Martin Lyttle, David Dudgeon, David Booth, David Annand and Simon Moss/Peter Layton.
Given the huge level of interest the Public Design Competition has generated, Monaco Properties in association with Carlow Local Authorities is offering a unique opportunity for the public of Carlow to view and vote on the final five submissions in the Competition.
This highly prestigious international Design Competition attracted a remarkable 33 entries for the design of a new Work OF Art for a Civic Space in front of the newly opened Shamrock Plaza .
The competition entries were anonymously assessed by the jury who did not know the identity of the winners, or any competitor, until after the final decision had been made. It is now known that many of the most distinguished and well known contemporary Artists from Ireland and Britain submitted designs for consideration.
On announcing the Five Short listed Artists , Barry Monaghan Director of Monaco Properties said; “We have been overwhelmed by both the number of entries to the competition and the high standard and imaginative creativity contained in them. The artists wholeheartedly embraced the challenge and their vastly different interpretations of the competition brief impressed us greatly. Along with the jury, I believe that any of the Final designs on exhibition have the potential to make a significant and positive contribution to the urban fabric of Carlow .
“We were also extremely fortunate to have a jury consisting of dedicated professionals who unequivocally committed themselves to the task of scrutinising each and every submission to the competition until the those final Five now on exhibition were selected.” stated Mr Monaghan
Exhibitors who view and vote from 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th March will also have the opportunity to win a gift Voucher to the value of €250.
Following the Exhibition the selection panel will meet thereafter, to go through the public votes which make up part the final assessment . The over all winner of Public Design Competition at the Shamrock Plaza will be notify on 1st April .The Winning permanent Piece of Art to stand outside the Shamrock Plaza will be unveiled during on Sunday 21st of June concluding Carlow’s Eigse Festival 2009.
